Description
Olea europaea is a small evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean Basin, widely cultivated for its fruit—the olive—and the oil extracted from it. It typically grows between 8 and 15 meters tall, with a gnarled trunk and silvery-green, lance-shaped leaves that are adapted to dry, sunny climates. The tree produces small, fragrant white flowers in spring, which develop into green fruits that gradually ripen to a deep purple or black. Its deep root system and hardy nature make it well suited to arid environments, and it can live for hundreds, sometimes even thousands, of years.
