Cupressus Sempervirens Totem

Description

The Cupressus Sempervirens Totem is a striking Italian Cypress that brings Mediterranean elegance directly to your garden. This columnar specimen features dense, feathery foliage in a rich emerald-green that remains vibrant throughout the year, making it an exceptional choice for creating a sophisticated focal point in borders, containers, or as a standalone architectural feature. Its narrow, upright habit is instantly recognisable and adds instant structure and height to even the smallest garden spaces.

This slow-growing evergreen is remarkably low-maintenance once established and thrives in full sun positions with well-draining soil. Unlike many conifers, it actually prefers drier conditions and handles poor, stony, or sandy soils well, making it ideal for tricky areas where other plants struggle. The Totem variety has been specifically selected for its compact columnar form, reaching approximately 2-3 metres tall but remaining just 40-60cm wide, so it fits perfectly into contemporary borders, Mediterranean-style gardens, or as a sophisticated container specimen on a patio or terrace.

In terms of ongoing care, this is genuinely fuss-free. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system, then reduce watering once settled. No pruning is necessary unless you wish to maintain a particularly neat appearance, in which case a light tidy in spring will suffice. The Italian Cypress is exceptionally hardy in most UK regions, particularly in the South and Midlands, though in colder northern areas it appreciates a sheltered, south-facing spot for best results.

Whether you’re seeking to frame a vista, add Mediterranean charm to contemporary gardens, or create elegant screens along borders, the Cupressus Sempervirens Totem delivers year-round interest with minimal fuss. Its architectural form and sophisticated evergreen foliage make it a timeless investment that works beautifully with both traditional and modern garden designs.
