Juniperus x Media Old Gold

Description

Juniperus x Media ‘Old Gold’ is a stunning evergreen shrub that brings warmth and colour to the garden throughout the entire year. This compact conifer is prized for its distinctive golden-yellow foliage, which intensifies during the colder months to create a striking focal point when other plants are dormant. Growing to around one to one and a half metres tall with a spread of roughly the same, it forms a neat, spreading habit that works beautifully in borders, containers, or as a specimen plant.

This juniper is exceptionally easy to grow and virtually maintenance-free once established, making it ideal for both experienced gardeners and beginners. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil, though it’s remarkably tolerant of poor, sandy, or gravelly conditions. ‘Old Gold’ is also highly resistant to drought once rooted, so it’s perfect if you’re looking to reduce watering demands in your garden. Unlike many conifers, it won’t mind coastal positions or exposed sites, and it tolerates pollution well, making it a genuinely tough performer.

Care is minimal and straightforward. The plant rarely requires pruning, though you can lightly trim it in spring if you want to maintain a specific shape. Its needle-like foliage naturally sheds any dead growth, and it’s resistant to most pests and diseases. There’s no need for feeding in most garden soils, and its established root system means you won’t be fussing over watering schedules.

Whether you’re designing a low-maintenance garden, softening hard landscaping, or simply want reliable year-round colour and interest, Juniperus x Media ‘Old Gold’ is a dependable choice that delivers season after season.
