Liquidambar styraciflua, commonly known as the liquid amber or sweetgum tree, is a striking deciduous tree valued for its dramatic foliage and strong seasonal interest. It has a tall, upright growth habit with a shaped crown when young, becoming broader with age. The leaves are star-shaped with pointed lobes, resembling those of a maple, and are glossy green during the growing season. In autumn, the tree is especially admired for its brilliant display of colors, turning shades of yellow, orange, red, and deep purple, often all on the same tree.
